Mozart - Violin Concertos 3 & 5 Sinfonia Concertante - Grumiaux Pelliccia Davis

This, to me, is one of the handful most successful Esoteric remasterings. The luminosity of Grumiaux' tone, the sheer joy of music-making, sheer bliss. Been listening to e.g. the Fischer and Thorsen SACDs lately, but hearing this, one is reminded some things were indeed better in the olden days… If I had had a say in this, I'd not have chosen the Sinfonia Concertante with Pelliccia, as I know at least half a dozen recordings that I prefer (having said that, it's not bad at all, just not on the exalted level of the Violin Concertos - it's also less lively and dynamic sonically, all in all a slightly but noticeably less inspired affair). A complete box-set of all the Concerti, possibly with the Sonatas with Clara Haskil, too, in a remastering like this - well, one can't have everything…
